📍【TCS Experiential Learning Friday  | #Dadaocheng Cultural Discovery Tour】

👣 Walking Through History, Stepping Into Stories

Our G8&G9 students at TCS embarked on a meaningful cultural exploration, diving deep into one of Taipei’s most storied and vibrant districts: #Dadaocheng.

From the spiritual ambiance of the #XiahaiChengHuangTemple to the architectural blend of red-brick Western buildings and Baroque-inspired façades, students followed their guide through a rich tapestry where the past meets the present.

As they wandered along the nostalgic lanes of #DihuaStreet, they discovered the coexistence of traditional goods, herbal medicine shops, and creative boutiques—an authentic reflection of Taiwan’s seamless blend of heritage and innovation.

Highlights of the tour included visits to the #KuoyimeiBookstore, a baroque-style building established in the 1960s, students discovered a living monument to Taiwan’s golden age of publishing and a key symbol of local literary culture. Students also explored the #Dadaocheng Ku Residence, where intricate carvings and a mix of architectural styles told the story of the Ku family's once-prominent status and cultural depth.

💬 “During the Japanese colonial era, Hong Ru Tang quietly emerged as a secret hub for learning Chinese. Its name, inspired by the timeless essay In Praise of a Humble Room, reflects the scholars’ unwavering commitment to preserving culture.”

💬 “Wow! Abalone decorations on rooftops were a sign of wealth!”

💬 “I have to take a photo of this church—it's the Lee Chun-sheng Memorial Church our teacher talked about in class!”

This journey supported students' personal and social growth by deepening their cultural understanding and sense of identity within the community.
