【TCS Experiential Learning Friday-Making the #ChickenMummies】

What is inquiry-based learning? It all started with a chicken here at TCS.

During the Experiential Learning Friday (#ELF) event, Grade 9 students at TCS embarked on an engaging journey into the fascinating culture of ancient Egypt. They were grouped to first explore the religious beliefs and intricate mummification process of the ancient Egyptians by conducting their own research. Guided by their science teacher, they started with a concise chemistry lesson on salts, dehydration, and bacterial growth prevention, with a focus on the unique properties of natron.

The highlight of the day was a hands-on experiment where they created '#MummyChickens'. With great enthusiasm, students meticulously cleaned and air-dried the chickens, following each step of the mummification process with precision, from applying natron to the final stages. This Inquiry and Project-Based Learning (PBL) activity allowed them to actively investigate both the cultural and scientific mysteries of ancient Egypt, deepening their understanding through immersive participation.
